Motivation!

I was lucky enough to attend the York Festival of Writing this year, run by the Writers Workshop. http://www.writersworkshop.co.uk
As I only found out about it late I could only go on the Sunday rather than the full weekend. However, this still meant I was able to see an agent and a book doctor to discuss The Single Feather.
I received great comments, they said the concept was unique and intriguing and the line by line writing was good. The book doctor pointed out areas she considered to be superb writing, which was the start of my prologue and chapter one.
I also had the chance to visit workshops on attracting agents, authors in the digital age and whether self publishing was an option.
However, by far the best part of the day was meeting writers, some new, some more established, and meeting fellow book lovers. I also had the chance to meet some people who I’d only known through Twitter, which was great!

If York was looking back at The Single Feather. National Novel Writing Month http://nanowrimo.org is looking forward to my next novel. I’ve decided to do this in November to kick-start my writing. York has given me the confidence to keep going, keep on creating and NaNoWriMon will help me do this. Who knows, next year when I go to York I may have a new novel with me.

That’s great that you got to go to York and meet other writers etc and share the ‘Single Feather’ with them….

Hi Ruth, great news that you had such an interesting time in York and that you got such positive feedback about The Single Feather! Yeh Hey! Well done, you!!! I think it is important to be able to talk and share ideas with like minded people, but this is especially true of writers ( and maybe artists too?), who spend a lot of time alone. Good luck with NanoWrimo. If anyone can do it, Ruth, you can!

      Hello Marianne,
Thanks so much for your comments!
I was lovely to meet other writers and build on some friendships started on Twitter.
November should be interesting – I’m looking forward to it, but also a bit nervous. I’m sure once I’ve decided upon a story the nerves should go away…
      Thanks again.
